Levels of care for mental health
Mental health treatment at FHE Health is offered at three levels, followed by ongoing support. If you are seeking mental health care without substance use treatment, care begins at the residential level, and you can step down as your needs change. The same clinical team supports you across levels. See levels of care for more detail.
Step 1
Residential care
A live-in stay on the Deerfield Beach campus. Most residential mental health stays run 30 to 90 days, or longer when clinically appropriate.
Step 2
Partial hospitalization (PHP)
Full days in treatment, with evenings at home or in supportive housing. On-campus housing is available at additional cost and is separate from the clinical program.
Step 3
Intensive outpatient (IOP)
Treatment on weekday afternoons, with weekly individual therapy, case management, group sessions, and family therapy when clinically indicated.
Step 4
Ongoing support
After treatment, the alumni program offers weekly meetings, an alumni support line, regular check-ins and community events. Staff start follow-up two days after discharge.
When mental health and substance use occur together
Mental health conditions and substance use often go together. Many people with a substance use disorder also live with depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder. People with mental health conditions also have a higher risk of substance use problems.
Because symptoms can overlap, an accurate diagnosis matters. The National Institute of Mental Health describes integrated care as combining mental health and substance use treatment so you get coordinated care in one place.
At FHE Health, when substance use and a mental health condition occur together, both are treated at the same time in one coordinated plan. Learn more about addiction treatment and trauma and PTSD treatment.

Common questions
Do I need an addiction diagnosis to get mental health care here?
No. Restore is for adults whose main need is mental health care. You do not need a substance use diagnosis to join.
Is the residential program locked?
No. Residential mental health care at FHE Health is voluntary and not locked. It is not a psychiatric hospital, so people who need a locked unit or emergency psychiatric care need a hospital.
How long does residential mental health care last?
Most stays run 30 to 90 days, or longer when clinically appropriate. Your length of stay depends on your needs, your progress and, if you use insurance, your plan's approval.
Can I start in PHP or IOP?
If you are seeking mental health care without substance use treatment, care at FHE Health begins at the residential level. Admissions can talk with you about what fits your situation.
Can I keep working during treatment?
Residential care usually means stepping away from work for a while. PHP or IOP may allow more flexibility, depending on the program schedule and your clinical needs.
Will my family be involved?
Only if you agree. Once you sign a release of information, your therapist can reach out to your family, and family members can take part in treatment or planning.
